At the end of August each year we move some of our hives to the Derbyshire moors. During the following three weeks the “Ling Heather” will come into flower giving the bees a final opportunity for the year to produce honey.

The Heather Honey is special for several reasons not least of which is the difficulty in its harvesting but also for the unique aspects of its taste (quite toffee like) but also for the remarkable way in which it is the only honey that never granulates.  Heather honey is a “thixotropic gel” similar to a non drip paint that if stirred becomes liquid but after a few minutes will become a gel again.  Amongst connoisseurs Heather honey is claimed to be the best flavour of all.

In 2004 we were awarded the Peak District Environmental Quality Mark in recognition of the positive effect our farming has in the Peak District National Park.
